## How the trade works

The Maldives is a pure resort market sold almost entirely through agents, in US dollars, with meal plans and transfer type doing more to the final price than the room does. Getting the rate plan and the supplement right is most of the job.

## What operators here are loading

Resorts contracted per room type × meal plan × season, with compulsory supplements — gala dinners, green tax, peak surcharges — priced per person, per night or per stay, and seaplane or speedboat transfers priced per person.

## Worth knowing

Mandatory supplements are modelled explicitly rather than folded into the rate, so a price can always be explained to an agent.

## The transfer is half the product

The Maldives is the one market where getting the guest to the hotel is a major commercial component rather than an add-on. A seaplane costs a meaningful share of the holiday, only flies in daylight, and connects to an international arrival time rather than to the guest's preference. A speedboat has its own schedule and its own weather. Whether an itinerary works at all is frequently a transfer question, not an availability question.

Meal plans are the second thing that decides the price. Bed and breakfast, half board, full board and all-inclusive are genuinely different products at the same property, and the gap between them is large enough that quoting the wrong one is a real loss rather than a rounding error.

Resorts are single-island properties. There is no walking to a cheaper restaurant, which is exactly why the plan and the transfer have to be right at the point of quotation.

## What that needs from a portal

The transfer and the meal plan are part of the quote, not a note at the end of it.

- **Meal plans are rate plans.** Room type times rate plan times season is the shape the contract already has.
- **Transfers are their own priced product** on a named route, per seat or per vehicle, with a night window and a cut-off.
- **Flight details are collected when the route needs them**, so a seaplane booking carries an arrival number rather than a promise to send it later.
- **Meeting instructions are snapshotted into the booking**, so a voucher reprinted in three months still says what the agent was told.
