## Morocco at a glance

- **Wallet currency:** MAD
- **Hub:** Marrakech and Casablanca
- **Portal languages:** English and Arabic
- **Suggested template:** Boutique; Inbound where the destination leads the page.

## How the trade works

Moroccan operators sell riads and desert programmes to European agents on short lead times and to North American agents on long ones — two different rhythms on the same inventory, which is exactly the case where a booking cut-off judged in the product’s local time matters.

## What operators here are loading

Riads and kasbahs with small room counts and real allotment limits, Sahara and Atlas excursions with fixed departures, and long transfers between Marrakech, Fes, Merzouga and the coast.

## Worth knowing

Small properties mean small allotments; the count is consumed under lock at the moment of booking.

## A closed currency, and a product that is mostly not a hotel

The dirham is not freely convertible and not traded offshore, which is why almost all Moroccan inbound business is contracted and settled in euros while costs are paid locally in dirhams. That is a structural feature of the market rather than an accounting preference, and it makes the currency your agent network holds a balance in an unusually consequential setting.

The inventory is also unusual. A riad is a handful of rooms in a medina, individually contracted, with no channel manager and often no email response on a Friday. A desert camp in the Agafay or Merzouga is a fixed number of tents with a transfer attached to it. Neither behaves like a chain hotel, and a system built for chain hotels handles both badly.

Most of what is sold is a circuit — Marrakech, Fes, Chefchaouen, the Sahara — assembled from these small suppliers with long private transfers between them.

## What that needs from a portal

Small contracted properties and long road legs, priced the way you bought them.

- **Contracted inventory is the point**, not a live channel feed: room types, rate plans, seasons and allotment you entered because you signed for them.
- **Long private transfers as routes with two named ends**, priced per vehicle with luggage and extra-stop rules.
- **A wallet in the currency your agents actually pay in**, chosen once at setup.
- **Your own cancellation policies per product**, because a riad and a desert camp do not have the same ones.
