## Pakistan at a glance

- **Wallet currency:** PKR
- **Hub:** Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad
- **Portal languages:** English and Urdu
- **Suggested template:** Faith for Umrah and Hajj programmes; Expedition for the northern areas.

## How the trade works

Travel agencies in Pakistan are licensed by the provinces, while pilgrimage runs on federal rules: the Ministry of Religious Affairs regulates the Hajj Group Organisers of the private Hajj scheme, and the State Bank of Pakistan lets authorised banks remit foreign exchange on behalf of Hajj and Umrah organisers. The cost of an Umrah package is in riyals; its sale is in rupees.

## What operators here are loading

Umrah packages built on Makkah and Madinah hotels contracted in riyals, ground transport between the holy cities, and a northern business in Hunza, Skardu and Swat where the roads are long and a private vehicle is what you price.

## Worth knowing

Urdu reads right to left, as Arabic does. The language belongs to each user rather than to the account, so a sub-agent in Multan can book in Urdu while your Karachi desk works in English.

## The riyal cost behind a rupee sale

An Umrah package sold in Lahore is assembled from beds bought in Saudi Arabia, and the space between those two currencies is where margin goes missing. Say you contract a Madinah room at SAR 400 a night, an illustrative figure. If the rupee moves between the day you price the package and the day you pay the hotel, a margin written as a fixed rupee amount is no longer the margin you meant.

A net hotel contract can carry its own cost currency on the rate plan. The stay is costed in riyals, converted at your rate, and the contract figure is frozen on the booking, so your desk sees what the hotel is owed in riyals with the margin in your account's currency beside it. Your sub-agents only ever see the rupee price you set.

## What a pilgrimage desk needs on screen

Group movement on fixed dates, sold through sub-agents who book for whole families.

- **Departures with real seats.** Each package departure carries its own seat count and is priced per person by room occupancy and season.
- **Holds with a deadline you set.** Allow holds for the hours you choose; the agent sees the deadline in their own clock, and a lapsed hold gives the place back.
- **Rooming lists to the hotel.** For the stays you sell, a list per hotel and dates, room by room, emailed as a numbered supplier copy.
- **Nearest first.** Switch on the hotel filters and agents sort hotels by straight-line distance from the place they pick, measured from each hotel's own pin where it has one.

## Licensed by province, sold nationwide

Each province licenses travel agencies itself: Punjab through its Department of Tourist Services under the 1976 Travel Agencies Act as the province has amended it, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under its own 2013 amendment of that Act, and Balochistan under a Travel Agencies Act of its own from 2014. Balochistan's definition is wide, so tickets, transport, lodging, sightseeing and guide services each make a business a travel agency.

Sub-agents in several provinces can still buy from one portal. Give each agency its own account, prepaid or on a credit limit as you decide, with a statement and running balance it can download for any dates. When an agent pays into your bank account, it reports the payment with the slip, and nothing moves until you confirm it.

## The north, priced by the vehicle

- **Private transfers by vehicle.** A route between two named places, priced by the vehicle, with its capacity, luggage and extra stops.
- **Tour options per group or per vehicle,** or per person with age bands, each with a capacity per day.
- **Closed dates that hold.** Close many products for a range of dates at once, with a preview and one undo, when a road or a valley is shut.
